The Dept of Health and Human Services should immediately reexamine an opt out, or presumed consent system of organ donation. The current opt in system will never provide enough cadaver organs.Citizens can still opt out, of course. In both scenarios, the family is always compassionately approached about donating a loved one's organs.
Simultaneous reexamination and possible realignment of the current geographical allocation system with the goal of delivering viable organs can help to improve the current state of the system, where geography and personal finances can limit a patient's access to organs. Patients of limited financial means are often not able to relocate to an area of the country and and move up the wait list.
Please sign my petition, and register as an organ donor.
