In the USA, we have almost no "mental health system". People who need help aren't getting treatment they need. Treatment for what? Depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, and dementia, to name a few of the more than two hundred classified forms of mental illness.
I propose a system in which students K-12 are checked on a yearly rate with a diagnostic, similar to the type used by private institutions. If they need help, they will be given time to talk to their counselor about the issue. I also propose that the government takes control of therapy, and works on getting more people into the room where there is a trained professional to talk to.
Many citizens are having trouble getting the help they need. My solution is not the only one, but it is the start of a good idea.
