US prisons are among the least effective in the world at preventing repeat offenders. They turn people who make mistakes into hardened criminals through an "us against them" culture reinforced with physical and sexual abuse.
It should be possible to entirely eliminate the drug, gang, and "snitchers pay" cultures poisoning our prisons and causing recidivism.
We petition the white house to extend and reinforce past success in prison reform. Create a council to study prisons in other countries and learn what has worked and failed for them.
