reform patent law to protect technology companies from patent trolls and limit the issue of broad patents.

Created by J.A. on November 29, 2012

The technology industry is plagued with patent trolls, companies that file and collect patents for the purpose of collecting damages from successful technologies through patent lawsuits. Patent law should be reformed to minimize the damages that may be collected in these instances so that innovation is not hampered.

Other companies are seeking patents for very broad things such as the patent Apple was recently granted for page turning. These patents are being granted for very general ideas within the community that are not an invention directly attributable to the party seeking the patent. Granting such a patent forces the technology industry to make a rapid departure from the accepted norm as protection, or spend time in litigation.

Patent law and the USPTO need reform.
