reform police firearms training and institute mandatory minimum prison terms for police officers found guilty of crimes

Created by L.G. on February 07, 2014

Police officers in this country use their firearms as a last resort and they shoot to kill. You can't blame them, for they are trained this way. However, their firearms should be used as tools that they should use to disarm and disable people, not to kill them when all other options have been exhausted. Also, just like how the government has decided to set aside mandatory minimums for drug offenders because in the past grave injustices have occurred with the long prison sentences some offenders have received for mere possession charges, similar injustices have occurred because our society has become too trusting of law enforcement. When an officer gets charged with a crime, even if there is overwhelming evidence against them, they usually get the benefit of the doubt and a light sentence.
