Reform prison policy, remove the privatization of prisons and release non-violent prisoners from incarceration.

The United States houses the most prisoners of any nation in the world with over 2 million citizens incarcerated. This increase in our prison population has created a market for private industries to fill their pockets with tax payer money while lobbying to maintain the status quo. Housing prisoners consumes enormous resources, steal lives from families, friends along with jobs from our economy. How can we live in the land of the free when nearly 1% of our population is behind bars? This increase in prison population stems from the incarceration of non-violent drug offenders, putting them in the same place as violent individuals. Those that oppose drug law and prison reform are those that have the most to gain from things staying the way they are. Peoples lives are worth more than money.
