Under both CSRS and FERS, Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at age 62 if they have completed at least five years of service.
Service members [who risk their lives for our country] who remain on active duty or serve in the Reserves or Guard for a sufficient period of time (usually a minimum of 20 years) may retire and receive retired pay.
Congress members should fall under the same or stricter retirement rules than our military. Receiving a pension after 5 years is not enough service to require that the government subsidize a salary after such short amount of time.
Reform CSRS and FERS to require 20 years.
