The sex offender laws and registry are a good idea in theory. We do need to protect our children. But as these laws stand they are harming more innocents than they are helping. It is time for a change!
Why is it that a teenager who happens to be of "legal age for sexual consent" is labeled as a sex offender for having sexual relations with someone who is just a year or two younger than they are?
Why is it that these same people are labeled as sex offenders and classified in the same way as those who have committed heinous crimes such as rape or child molestation?
Why is it that the media portrays only the worst of the worst acts and ignores the harm being done to so many who are not a danger to society?
