Reform Slander and Libel Laws to Apply to Candidates in Elections Regulated by the FEC

Created by J.O. on September 22, 2011

The current federal laws that concern a private person's right to claim when a known false statement has been made against them should be extended to include the candidates in a political campaign. A candidate should neither be afforded the right to make false statements for political ends, nor should they be victim to false claims themselves.
No Political Action Committee or interest group should be afforded the right to unduly influence a political discussion by broadcasting falsehoods, nor should a candidate harm a business interest by publicly attesting to false claims.
