Reform solitary confinement so only the worst of the worst are locked up, not the helpless and nonviolent

Created by J.N. on March 04, 2015

Solitary confinement used to house the worst of the worst. But it has grown far beyond that. Now it's used to both punish even minor offenses (profanity!) and to protect inmates, like whistleblower females who need protection from guards. You're locked down 22-24 hours a day. The women of Logan Illinois Correctional have recently reported having to beg guards for, of all things, sanitary napkins. They weren't asking for steak dinners. Those women at Logan, many of whom are not violent let alone the worst of the worst, report they are on 24 hour lockdown, suicide attempts are common, and the screams for mercy, mercy, please let me out never stop day and night. And it happens all over the country. Where is the ban on cruel and unusual punishment? Go to solitarywatch.com for more info.
