Eliminating the abuse of the SNAP program and educating recipients would result in less cuts to this needed benefit. Everyday recipients purchase prepared and "junk" foods that are expensive and unhealthy. Studies show that the excessive consumption of junk foods lead to diabetes, heart disease, obesity and other controllable diseases. By tightening regulations what can be purchased and where it can be purchased, millions of dollars would be saved; more importantly lives could be saved. By encouraging healthier eating, it could also decrease the burden on the healthcare system. Recipients should also be educated on diet and nutrition as well as smart shopping habits.
