The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) has helped millions of Americans, but we have further to go.
70 percent of Americans with disabilities are not in the workforce - yet want to work.
Employment disincentive exists if someone with a disability admits they're capable of working or they acquire more than $2,000 in assets. They can lose all their healthcare coverage or personal care assistant. Imagine telling someone wheelchair-bound that since he can work, he isn't disabled & doesn't need an assistant.
It's a benefits trap. The disabled person risks winding up worse off after seeking employment.
Please continue ADA reform with progress like the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act.
