Welfare today has turned into an entitlement program. Temporary assistance for needy families encourages states to require some sort of employment search in exchange for benefits to individuals; this reform is not enough. Any person capable of working should be required to do so in exchange for benefits. Hours worked could regulate the amount of assistance received. A wage system could be put in place based in the work performed and skill sets of an individual. Working for participating companies and the government people could prove their worth as employee's. If a state can use a prisoner while incarcerated to do public service, how much more worthy is a free citizen to do that same job on a welfare pay system? Remove the expectation of a handout and create an earning system for people.
