The Electoral College system has been part of how our elections work for nearly our entire history as a nation. However, today that system is outmoded. The way that the College works today serves to disenfranchise voters in the state who don't agree politically with the winner(it negates their votes). Another system, whether it be direct election of the President, or proportional distribution of each state's Electoral votes based on that state's popular vote would be much more equitable.
