I am proposing a policy that mandates longer training time for cadets before being out on patrol by themselves. A minimum of 18 months should be required. Nine months should be focused on basic training, making sure that there are enough hours of scenario and de-escalation training, where cadets are taught to only fire a gun as an extreme last resort. Nine months should be focused on Field Training where they are always accompanied by their Field Trainer. This police should also mandate a standard national curriculum that all agencies must abide by. It is time to tackle police brutality at its source.
