College in the United States is becoming less and less affordable and less and less valuable. Tuition is rising 4 times faster as the rate of inflation and students are graduating with tens of thousands of dollars in debt with majors that provide little to no job prospects.
The first and easiest step to fixing this is to change the pathway to a major.
Students should have the option to have a gap year between high school and college to both work for money and also to explore different potential career fields in order to better pick their major by shadowing or even interning.
Students that know their major should not have to take gen-eds (but have the option to) in order to save time and MONEY. If you don't know what you want to major, then you have the OPTION of taking gen-eds.
