It may be necessary to raise taxes on small businesses, middle class, or the rich in order to balance the budget. Better than passing the burden to our children. But please let's not incite class warfare. By the important measures: (percent of total taxes paid, tax as a percent of income) the rich DO pay their fair share. Moreso than the rest of us. To say otherwise is "a whopper" and incites class animosity needlessly.
Wouldn't it be preferred to just state the truth? We are passing the burden of today's government to tomorrow's taxpayers. The unfairness is burdening our children to pay for today's entitlements and national defense, and raising taxes (and perhaps lowering our standard of living) is thus necessary.
For the other 47%, this is much more palatable.
