Airline tickets come in two varieties - refundable, and non-refundable. Each type of ticket also comes with any number of taxes and fees, added on to the base fare of the ticket. If you cancel a refundable ticket, the entire cost of the ticket is refunded, including the taxes and fees.
If you cancel a non-refundable ticket, the entire cost of the ticket is not refunded, including the taxes and fees. Why are taxes and fees being collected on an item that that is cancelled? The IRS is collecting taxes and fees on a service that's been cancelled by the purchaser. There is NO data on how much in taxes the IRS takes in on cancelled, non-refundable tickets - there's no transparency on these taxes and fees.
Congress should have the IRS refund taxes and fees on cancelled airline tickets.
