Refuse employers the right to make hiring decisions based on information obtained from a credit report.

Created by R.L. on November 13, 2012

Often companies obtain an applicant’s “Credit History” when making hiring decisions. By obtaining applicants “credit history” the employer is subject to see delinquent accounts the applicant may have for “medical reasons” in collection. Based on this information, employers can elect not to hire an individual assuming they may become a “risk” to the company’s insurance plan, make assumptions of the wellbeing of an applicant, and discriminate against the applicant for “medical” conditions they should not otherwise have privilege of knowing about. Employers would never admit to this reasoning in their employment practices; however, this information has adversely affected individuals without them having knowledge.
