As this petition is created, Rimsha Masih, an eight-year-old, mentally handicapped girl from Islamabad, Pakistan is being held in jail for desecrating the Koran, though she often has no control over her actions.
According to Pakistan's blasphemy law, desecrating the Koran carries the death penalty. That a mentally handicapped child may be murdered for offending religious sensibilities is outrageous. Furthermore, Pakistan is not the only country with blasphemy laws that censor its citizens.
This petition calls on the President and his administration to refuse foreign aid to countries with blasphemy laws, and to take the lead on the international stage by committing and acting to end theocracy worldwide.
