During the Obama presidency, Donald Trump routinely exploited racism and xenophobia through the "birther" movement in an attempt to invalidate Mr. Obama's authority. While it is important for the current administration to cooperate with President-elect Trump in an official capacity, because preservation of our democracy is paramount, we feel that Mr. Trump deserves a small taste of his own medicine.
Because Twitter has been so important to Mr. Trump's media strategy, and because he routinely uses his @realDonaldTrump account to bully and spread misinformation in a way that is inappropriate for an official government channel, we ask the White House to consider changing the @POTUS Twitter handle to @realPOTUS before handing the account credentials over to the Trump administration.
