Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia is implicated in the largest corruption scandal in the nation's history. The Wall Street Journal reported on July 2 2015 that roughly US $700,000,000 was transferred from the state-owned investment firm 1MDB, which Najib set up and which he chairs, to Najib's personal bank accounts. The investigation into 1MDB was scuttled by Najib's firing of the Attorney General leading the investigation, his arrest of investigators into 1MDB, and his banning of news sources documenting the investigations.
The government of Malaysia is discredited without open and independent investigation of 1MDB. The White House should demand an independent investigation, and publicly refuse to meet with Malaysian leadership until these are in place.
