Refuse to participate in the Rio 2016 Olympics

Created by A.L. on July 06, 2016

A lot has been going on in Brazil over the past decade, and the 2016 Olympics have led the government to focus on gentrification projects in Rio de Janeiro, completely shutting out their poor, which makes up the majority of their population. Locals have been displaced and their homes torn down for not being appealing enough to the wave of tourists. As Rio rushes to put on a pretty facade the citizens continue to die of hunger and sickness. Crime rate is high because the government has no interest in helping it's own population, only pleasing its tourists. By participating in the 2016 Olympics the US would be showing the world that it is okay with the treatment of these people.
