Refuse, Refrain, and Reject the "R' Word

Created by P.A. on January 29, 2013

Amber Albert and Devon Viola's Crusade To Get 1 Million Pledges

Amber's brother has MECP2 Duplication Syndrome and severe mental retardation. We often hear the word “retard” or “retarded” being used inappropriately. We're asking you to consider joining our crusade.

1. I pledge to refuse to use the “R” word (“retard” or “retarded”) in a demeaning and hurtful way.

2. I pledge to refrain from using the “R” word in a derogatory way and to raise awareness of the painful effects that can occur as the result of these insults.

3. I pledge to reject the use of the “R” word in any disrespectful way and to encourage others not to use these terms in an offensive manner.

I agree to these statements and vow to live in complete acceptance of those who have a physical or intellectual disability.
