regularize the weights and measures system of food stuffs, returning to full units like one pound, five pounds, etc.

Created by P.H. on December 03, 2012

Over the past few years, manufacturers of food stuffs have been downsizing their packaging in an effort to disguise rising food prices. Ice cream went from 1/2 gallon (2 qts) to 1.5 quarts; flour and sugar may now be found in 4 lb bags rather than 5, etc. Cracker boxes are no longer sold by 16 oz. weight but 14 oz. and even canned food that used to be in 1 lb. cans are less than that now. For many items unit prices have been raised anyway, but at first glance the smaller package price may seem cheaper if you don't realize the downsizing has maintained the same overall shape.
