The NCAA has began to impose increasingly severe sanctions on colleges and universities, with no external overview group available to review the equity and justice of NCAA rulings.
The NCAA is the judge and jury on all collegiate athletic issues- acting as the body that creates and enforces rules, as well as determining the severity of sanctions if infractions occur.
Sanctions that now include multi-million dollar fines, bans on future event participation, and loss of scholarships have the potential to go beyond fair and equal. They can strip opportunities from uninvolved student-athletes, as well as create financial stress on educational institutions.
The NCAA needs an outlet for external review. NCAA procedures should be fair and consistent, and not impact areas beyond athletics
