Regulate the chargemasters of non-profit healthcare institutions

Created by S.B. on February 24, 2013

Non-profit healthcare providing organizations are stipulating highly inflated prices for their products and services, which due to lack of regulation and a captive and vulnerable clientele allows them to have significantly higher profit margins than most non-profit and for-profit industries. This petition requests that transparency standards are set for pricing strategies and internal costs for non-profit healthcare providers. In particular, a process for reviewing the entities' chargemasters and a system that allows customers to share invoices from non-profit healthcare providers to allow regulators to track and review the pricing policies of these entities. Additional regulations should cap the pay for executives of non-profit organizations and limit the organizations' profit margins.
