Regulate chemical storage facilities more stringently and hold them more accountable for disasters.

Created by D.D. on January 20, 2014

I am starting this petition because of the chemical spill in West Virginia that has left hundreds of thousands of people without a basic necessity - water. Because the facility, that leaked the chemical, was only a storage facility, it wasn't held to the same government regulations as one who produces said chemicals. Facilities such as this should 1) be inspected every few months and be held to the same regulations as one who creates these chemicals, 2) not be able to be built close to a waterway, and 3) not be able to declare bankruptcy after a disaster occurs. The citizens of our beautiful state are tired of the nonsense non-regulation. Because of this non-regulation, who knows the extent of the damage caused by the recent leak at Freedom Industries.
