Regulate the Department of Motor Vehicles (or Office of Motor Vehicles, or etc.) On a Country-wide Scale

Created by C.M. on November 20, 2011

As Americans we depend on personal transportation. However, the state agency responsible for our ability to drive can unfairly extort money for us at any time.

For example, I had auto insurance but, due to a computer issue, DMV did not have a record of it, and my license was suspended. I had to pay $145 to unsuspend it. Things like this happen all the time. Google "sue DMV" for 1.2 million results. 1000's of similar stories exist from all across America (also search for "dmv stories"). When DMV's systems are unjust, we have no recourse. We're just told "it's how it works".

A possible solution is to allow us to prove wrongful suspension, etc., in all states. Or, a federal DMV that oversees or replaces the state DMVs according to nationwide rules. Please stop DMV from defrauding us.
