The home security alarm industry inserts automatic contract renewal (a practice known as "evergreen") into its service contracts. This alone is bad enough but industry sales personnel do not advise consumers of this practice. Canceling contracts is burdensome and, some in the industry, punish those who prematurely end contracts by forwarding collection to collection agencies and/or attempt to ruin the consumers credit rating as a punishment.
Sales personnel also vastly inflate the value of hardware used to complete the security system. Additionally, the consumer is required to maintain installed hardware and pay for service for equipment they do not own.
These practices should be regulated to protect consumers from fraudulent practices and misrepresentation. Thank you
