The use of Federal Trade Commission to protect consumers and push for legislation regarding unfinished products in the gaming industry in what’s called “early access”.
We are calling for legislation to regulate and allow refunds to consumers for products that are considered “unfinished”. We believe that it would be fair for refunds to be issued for an unfinished product for at least six months after paying for it, as long as the product did not launch yet. Releasing a playable but unfinished product of the game for a price that’s non-refundable it’s not fair to consumers and stifles creativity and competition. Many times these games are open to hacking and exploits or are simply unplayable.
