More than 10,000 Americans die by gun every year. Since 1982 there have been more than 60 gun massacres in the US. Of all the gun massacres in the world, more than 30% occur in the US. These are not terrorist-related deaths. These are murders committed by Americans with guns. Lax gun laws have not prevented gun murders. What can prevent gun murders is a reasonable restriction on the sale and safe storage of firearms. Following 9/11, the leaders of America joined together in bi-partisan support for sweeping changes in how we protect our citizens against terrorism. As a result, since 2001, fewer than 300 Americans have died as a result of terrorism. And yet since 2001 more than 100,000 Americans have been murdered with guns. It's time for bi-partisan support for common sense gun laws.
