Rehabilitation in Prisons

Created by L.E. on May 09, 2016

In 2005, an estimated 68% of 405,000 prisoners released were arrested again for a new crime within 3 years with that percentage rising to 77% within 5 yrs. In order to fix this problem, rehabilitation in prisons has been slowly integrated into the system; however, not enough emphasis is being placed on this issue.
More rehabilitation should be issued to all prisons. Sweden has enacted a strong rehabilitation program in its prisons and has had positive results. In the last decade, the prisoner rate has dropped 21% and the recidivism rate has fallen to 40%, far less than the United States’.
Prisons should be focused on rehabilitating criminals instead of keeping them trapped in a box. With emphasis on rehabilitation in prisons, crime rates will drop and less convicts will be re-incarcerated.
