The Yucca Mountain, Nevada site has been thoroughly studied for decades and was our only and best option for the underground disposal of high level radioactive wastes now temporarily stored under water or in dry casks at reactors. The abrupt closing of the project on purely political grounds was short-sighted and a giant step backwards from solving this critical problem that has plagued this country for over 6o years. The Yucca Mountain site should be reinstalled atop the list of viable options and allowed to progress with the licensing process.
