On January 16, 2013, the White House increased from 25,000 to 100,000 the number of petition signatures required within 30 days before an official response is issued. In its announcement justifying the change, the White House stated, "In the last two months of 2012, use of We the People more than doubled" and that the change is being made "to ensure we’re able to continue to give the most popular ideas the time they deserve." Tough. The undersigned believe responsive government does not exist when the number of signatures required before such minimal action as an official response can be arbitrarily quadrupled. It is government's responsibility to adapt to the people, not the other way around. The former threshold should be reinstated.
