In 1933 Congress passed, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed into law, the Buy American Act which requires government agencies to prefer US made products in its purchases. I propose that the Obama administration reinstate this law.
There are many benefits to reinstating this law:
1) It keeps dollars in the US, employing American workers and boosting American manufacturers at a time when the trade deficit is enormous.
2) It increases our self sufficiency at a time when we are increasingly dependent on foreign parts or foreign products to run our economy.
3) It increases our security by forcing the use of American made computers and other devices rather than those made or manufactured by foreign interests which could be compromised by malware or purposeful defects.
