Our prisons are overcrowded and we spend on average $60,000 for housing an inmate. That cost keeps climbing daily as wages and supplies start to climb. The cost of the death penalty outweights the cost of housing an inmate but short term the results are less violent crimes. It has been shown in four (4) seperate studies that for every one execution there are an average of 26.25 less murders for that year nationally. If we take a look at the California and Texas Death Rows and total the number of murders compared from 2011 to 2012; CA(No Death Penalty) 107 more murders in FY12 than FY11, TX (Death by Lethal Injection) 19 more murders in FY12 than FY11. In FY12 California had 1,128 murders and Texas had 704 murders, there are 37.59% (424) less murders in Texas due to the Death Penalty.
