The United States of America was founded as a secular nation dedicated to the principles of democracy. Our nation's founding fathers chose the Latin phrase "E pluribus unum" or "Out of many, one" to represent these principles as our national motto. For over a century and a half the United States was the land of "E pluribus unum," but during the communist paranoia of the 1950s, congress changed the motto to "In God We Trust." To represent our nation with the phrase "In God We Trust" is a violation of our nation's founding principles, and a betrayal of our founding fathers. The McCarthy era is long over and it is high time that the United states once again be "Out of many, one."
