Reinstate the Fairness Doctrine of 1949 and allow the FCC to prosecute fraudulent news broadcast companies.

Created by R.W. on January 30, 2016

If I intentionally deceive a person for monetary gain, it is fraud and it is a crime

How can news broadcast companies deceive millions of people for monetary gain and it is not a crime?

In 1986, under Reagan Administration, the Fairness Doctrine of 1949 was removed from FCC regulations. Afterwards there was no real law that penalized broadcast companies

The Fairness Doctrine was because of the lessons of the Fall of the Weimer Republic

The Doctrine required public news broadcasts on matter of public import to be factual or broadcasting corporation would face fines and possible license revocation

If there was a political opinion, there needed to be "some" time given to another reasonable political opinion

Truth is critical to democracy. Without the facts, we can't reach solutions
