The Aquarius research facility is the only underwater research facility in the world. It is located in the Florida keys, used by schools, researchers and even NASA to facilitate research that would otherwised be difficult and costly to do. In 2012, after roughly 30 years of funding, and a history of providing results, its federal funding was cut off.
At a time when we need to better understand our impact on the planet, most of which is ocean, we have decided to do away with investing in facility that has proven to help us do exactly that. This seems counter intiuitive and hypacritical in nature. This facility is a low cost way of providing answers to some of the tougher questions we have and should be a part of our national research funding.
