Reinstate funding to UNESCO

Created by D.D. on March 16, 2012

In 2011, United States contributions formed approximately 1/5 of UNESCO’s operating budget of $643 million. The decision by our government to cut off this funding in response to the admission of Palestinian Authority as a member state is a grave misuse of our international influence and privilege. The victims of this decision are poor and vulnerable people all over the world who have nothing to do with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In addition, these cuts will jeopardize our ability to promote political stability and economic growth in Iraq and Afghanistan, regions we’ve already paid so dearly to stabilize.

This action sets a dangerous precedent that, if upheld, could damage the capabilities of countless UN agencies. Please repeal H.R.2145.EH immediately.
