Reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act.

Created by J.F. on November 03, 2011

The repeal of the Glass-Steagell Act contributed greatly to the 2008-2009 financial crisis as well as the housing bubble. The Glass-Steagell Act was put in place to cut down on speculation and to keep a separation between banks and financial institution. The 1999 repeal of the Glass-Steagell act allowed banks to sell bundled mortgages, which passed the bad loans onto the rest of the market leading to a catastrophic collapse. We ask that the Glass-Steagell Act be reinstated or that a law of similar strength be put in its place to prevent this type of event from happening again.
