Our government failed the middle and lower classes, and undermined the US economy's potential for full recovery, by not extending the 2% payroll tax reduction known as the "payroll tax holiday" as part of the financial deal that supposedly enabled us to avoid the so-called "fiscal cliff." If not for all wage earners, the extension should have at least been granted for individuals earning less than $250,000 annually. Reinstating the reduction would protect jobs, improve tax fairness for the middle and lower classes, and it would resume the immediate, direct economic stimulus those extra paycheck dollars provided.
