The Pell Grant eligibility limit was recently slashed from 18 semesters to complete an undergraduate degree in college to 12 semesters. Yes, we need to make cuts to balance our budget, but the Pell Grant cuts did not factor in students with disabilities (who need more time to graduate or who take a smaller course load) or severe personal hardships such as personal illnesses, family deaths, economic struggles, etc. when calculating how much time a student needs to complete their degree. I am petitioning to request reinstatement of the 18 semesters deadline so that the disabled and most disenfranchised may still have an opportunity to improve their quality of life through education.
