Created by I.O. on March 17, 2013

Due to the health care reform legislation made in 2010, Flexible Spending Account (FSA) users will no longer be able to pay for regular over-the-counter medications unless they are prescribed by a doctor. FSA is a health benefit that employers offer to its employees to save and set aside money each month to pay for out-of-pocket medical costs, such as co-pays and deductibles; Reinstate purchasing of basic over-the-counter medications on FSAs.
Nowadays, with the new law basic over the counter medications such as Tylenol for example, cannot be paid using FSAs. If an employee used to pay for allergy or heartburn medication using his/her FSA savings account, he/she is out of luck unless his doctor writes a prescription. This is is a costly move for both employers and employees.
