Reinstate Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act

Created by Z.G. on June 26, 2013

We demand that President Obama issue an executive order overturning the Supreme Court's decision to declare Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act unconstitutional.

While the reasoning given by the Supreme Court for their declaration is that the law is no longer relevent or required, that is not true. Less than two hours after the law was repealed, Texas passed a voting law that was denied to them under the Voting Rights Act. This proves that the only reason that there is seemingly no discrimination at the polls is due to the Voting Rights Act.

With that in mind, the Obama Administration should reinstate Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, once again requiring states with a history of discrimination towards minorities to have all new voting laws approved by the Justice Department.
