Reinstate the visa for Janis Shinwari, interpreter for U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

Created by J.L. on September 26, 2013

By US soldier Matt Zeller (paraphrase): "Five years ago, my Afghan interpreter Janis Shinwari saved my life in a firefight against the Taliban, then the Taliban put him on a kill list. Afghan interpreters are promised U.S. visas for 1 year of service, and Janis has served 9 years. After all these years, visas for him and his family were issued 2 weeks ago, but then the State Dept revoked them without explanation. I investigated and in the two weeks since the visas were issued, an anonymous ‘informant’ made false claims about Janis. I think the Taliban learned of the visa approval in the news and made the anonymous tip to have more time to hunt him and his family down and kill them.” http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/sep/26/afghan-interpreter-...
