We should reinstate The White House tours. Cancellation of tours of a publicly supported facility, like any other national monument in Washington, D.C. or elsewhere, deprives the citizens who support it from enjoying, learning from, and further supporting its existence. It is an autocratic demonstration of power to remove public tours because of a major budget sequestration that is designed to cut $900 billion in spending over 10 years. While we elect public officials to ultimately make difficult spending decisions, it is my opinion (not fact, as I do not see the budget paperwork) that the cost of The White House tour program could not cost more than $1 million dollars over the course of the 10 years, if your office plans to continue this policy for that course of time.
