Reinstating the Fairness Doctrine

Biased use of the airwaves, which are the possession of the American people, has worked against the public interest. In the absence of the Fairness Doctrine, misinformation and opinion regularly supplant reason and evidence resulting in less informed public discourse. The absence of a diversity of perspectives within broadcasts has facilitated intellectual isolation resulting in greater hostility between people of differing perspectives. The Fairness Doctrine was designed to insure accuracy of information and diversity of perspectives. Its reinstatement would prevent the use of a public possession in a way that harms the public and restore the airwaves to a beneficial role in American discussion of public issues.
