Prior to the sixteenth amendment federal income tax was unconstitutional. Tariffs were used as the primary revenue for the federal government before 1913. Many other governments such as the Chinese continue to use tariffs as a major revenue, taxing American made products.
With our national debt, growing exponentially every day, major spending cuts and new revenue sources are needed to eliminate the debt. Taxing all imported products, will create significant revenue to pay off this debt, and encourage job growth in the United States at the same time. Once our debts are paid, federal income taxes can be decreased or stopped and tariffs can remain at primary revenue.
